Definition of Thrush:
Thrush (as it is commonly known) is a yeast or fungal infection can be found in the throat, vagina, penis, and along the gastro-intestinal tract from the mouth to the anus.
Typical Complaints:
intense itching, burning or stinging. Sometimes producing a creamy white or cottage cheese like discharge.
The Candida relationship to Thrush:
Thrush stems from a fungal overgrowth in the gut. Candida is a fungus and when it becomes systemic i.e. it buries through the gut wall and enters the blood stream, it leaves tiny holes in the gut wall which then allows product and fungus from the bowel into the blood stream. Doctors call this Gut Dysbiosis.
Once the Candida passes into the blood it can circulate around the body setting up host anywhere. Candida thrives in dark, moist places and so the vagina and GI tract are ideal breeding grounds where it can replicate at an alarming pace. Diet plays an important part in an episode of Thrush as it feeds on sugar and is agrivated by yeast, garlic and mushrooms. Thus some days it is worse that others.
If the gut problem were eradicated, thrush would cease to be a problem as the body would keep candida under it s control, and no longer rely on Canesten, Diflucan or other thrush treatments.
What You Can Do:
First we must eradicate the fungal overgrowth from the gut and the blood stream. Once this has been achieved through our Candida Program we then begin to heal the gut wall thus ceasing the continual leaking of fungus from the bowel into the blood stream. This in turn eliminates Thrush and prevents its re-occurrence.
