Definition: The presence of mucus in the stool on opening the bowels. A slimy excretion from the bowel associated often with IBS.
Typical Complaints: Abdominal pain, bloating, constipation or diarrhoea, excessive wind, nausea and intolerances to certain foods.
Candida relationship: When an overgrowth of the fungus Candida is present in the bowel it disrupts the normal balance of vital bacterium and thus impairs bowel function, leading to the unpleasant side effects of IBS including an excess of mucus in the stools. This makes the gut far more sensitive to certain foods and substances and food intolerances become commonplace and make the condition worse. As well as determining which foods are causing problems, you need to irradicate the overgrowth of Candida to restore normal bowel function. This is done by following our Candida Programme.
Healing: In order to stop the debilitating symptoms of IBS and cease the excess mucus in your stools, you need to rid the bowel of Candida and then replenish the gut with a healthy balance of good bacteria. At the same time you need to heal the gut wall by restoring the integrity of the mucous membranes which have been compromised by the presence of Candida. Once this happens you IBS will cease to be a problem.
